                             Valley of the T-rex rant

You know, I am a fan of dinosaurs and documentaries about them. Except for a few. This one in paticular is the biggest piece of crap documentary ever created. I'm not even going to review it. I'm just going to rant on the stupidest parts. So, here we go, Valley of the T-rex rant:

(Jack Horner(on T-rex being a predator):It's intresting except, scientifically speaking, no one's ever challenged the idea that T-rex was a predator...)

Bullcrap! Paleontologist Lawrence Lambe suggested tyrannosaurs were scavengers because the lack of wear on the teeth of an Albertosaurus (which we now know is because carnivorous dinosaurs replaced there teeth regulary). So, Jack is NOT the first to purpose this theory.

(And, no one's found any evidence to suggest that it was a predator.)

What about the healed bitemarks on ceratopsians and hadrosaurs?

(Jack Horner: I don't think T-rex could catch anything with those short little arms)

What about it's jaws? And it's arms can lift 450 pounds. They weren't entirely useless.

(Jack Horner: Tyrannosaurus Rex was the largest meat-eating dinosaur in North America. But the dinosaurs I think were good predators, things like Deninonychus, Velociraptor and Saurnitholestes, were all small lightly built, very different from Tyrannosaurus Rex.)

That is a horrible comparison! That's like saying a cheetah is a perfect predator but a crocodile can't hunt because it's not built like a cheetah! Different predators have different hunting strategies for bringing down different prey!

(Jack Horner: The best we can say for now is that T-rex was 100% scavenger)

Do you know anything about biology? Large land carnivores cannot be pure scavengers! And do you want to know why? Because carcasses aren't dropping 24/7! And even if they were, it would be hard to get to them because pure scavengers, like vultures, fly! T-rex can't! Anymore stupidity you can offer me?

(Jack Horner:So, this CT scan tells us T-rex didn't see well but had a tremendous sense of smell.)

Then, why do other CT scans show us T-rex had great vision? By the way, the braincast your using is incomplete. And, T-rex's eyes faced forward, giving it good depth perception.

(Narattor:CT scans reveal T-rex had a good sense of smell, like a vulture.)

How does this support your case? Yes, vultures have a good sense of smell, like T-rex, but so do predatory birds, reptiles, big cats, canids, bears, hyenas, ect. So, yeah, that does not support your case.

(Jack Horner:Scavengers crush bone. And T-rex, being a bone-crusher, probably was getting there second.)

What pure scavenger can crush bones? Don't bring up hyenas because they are primarily predators. Lions, hyenas, bears and wolves can crush bones and they are predators.

The final thoughts on this documentary, it's freaking horrible. And, it's not even because it supports the weak scavenger theory. It's because it relies on weak inconclusive evidence and is one sided, it doesn't even show the other  side of the debate. For all those who believe this documentary, please, for me, WATCH. PLANET. DINOSAUR. Go watch Planet Dinosaur, the third episode. The tyrannosaurs in there, those are real tyrannosaurs. Go watch it. Bye.

And let's not also forget that there is plenty, and I mean PLENTY of evidence of t-rex bites in animal bones that have healed over, meaning they were alive when attacked by a rex. LOVED this rant! And I too HATED that special! Although, the red-headed t-rex was pretty badass.... Weak for vileness, I will say. But the special still sucks. Keep on thinking, dude! POWER TO THE PRIMAL! :headbang:

My friend you're not the only one to suffer from this terrible documentary, and my condolences. You've made several good points and a good job of bring this up. I too have note these before, and it's funny that another one of the episodes in this series actually supports the opportunist behavior that is generally agreed upon by showing that T. rex could potentially run up to 25 mph. Jack Horner was the scientist responsible for making Spinosaurus the lead baddie in JP3 by killing the rex, so it's not really any surprise he would screw up big time. Makes you wonder how one of the scientists who help reform ideas of hadrosaurs (the number 1 prey item of the rex) would conclude something so, dare I say, stupid.
