                            Top 10 Animated Disney songs

You know, I've always wanted to do this, but, never got the chance until now. I make no secret of it that I am a fan of the Walt Disney animated films. Their great animation, creative characters and relatable stories have inspired me and many others to become writers. But, the most memorable parts of these films were always the songs. Moving, funny and entertaining, you'll be hardpressed to find anyone who doesn't remember them. But, which are my favorites? Well, I'm here to give you my top 10 today. Just remember, if you disagree with me on any or I left out your favorites, these are strictly my opinions. So, with that said, here we go!

10. The Bare Necessities from The Jungle Book: Here's a classic. This a song you just sit back to and enjoy. It has a great beat, good lyrics and a nice performance from Phil Harris as Baloo. What more could you ask for?

9. I'll make a Man out of You from Mulan: This is a song that is very energized. It shows the hardships of Mulan training at the camp and and feels like something out of a training montage. Not to mention this was always how I felt in Gym Class in Middle School so I could relate to it.

8. I Want to Know from Tarzan: I really don't get why people hate Phil Collins. I think he's a good musician. But, anyway, this capture's Tarzan's desire to know about the humans. He know's that these people could be potentially dangerous. But, his desire to learn about the creatures like him and possibly, his place in the world, compels him to learn and get closer to them. I Want to Know: So, tell me again why Phil Collins is bad?

7.Not One of Us from The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride: This is a song and film I feel is underrated. I know it's a Disney sequel and they usually turn out less than well, but this one I think was an exception.  Yes, it's not as good as the first film, but it was still pretty good. But, to the song. After a misunderstanding, Simba is almost killed by Kovu's pride, The Outsiders. Simba exiles him and we get this song. It expresses the emotion greatly, as the creature's of Pridelands think Kovu betrayed them and are afraid of another repeat of Scar's reign. And, Kovu fears he is becoming Scar.  And, the African style feel is weel captured. Not One of Us: Because sometimes, its the depressing songs that are the best.

6. Almost there from The Princess and The Frog: This is a little more recent, but still a goodie. I like the New Orleans jazz-style beat it has. And, you also feel for Tiana as she works very hard to get where she's at and it's in her grasp. I always feel that as a writer so it was very relatable. Almost There: Because, let's face it, we've all been there.

5. Never Had a Friend like Me from Aladdin: Now, I know what you're thinking. Why didn't I put A Whole New World instead? Well, A Whole New World is a great song. But, this one is comedic gold! First off, you have surreal visuals and animation to work with. Second, there are a lot of references in it, but, unlike a Seltzerberg movie, they use it to their advantage and keep it subtle. And 3rd, it allows Robin Williams to do what he does best: act goofy and crazy and have fun. Never had a friend like me: goofy, surreal and awesome!

4. Hellfire from Hunchback of Notre Dame: This is one of the darkest songs ever coming from one of the darkest Disney films ever. And, it gives us a really good character insight. Frollo, Paris's Judge, is lusting for the gypsy Esmerelda. But, is bound by his faith in God and what he believes is justice. And, he is torn whether to turn from his faith or to kill the girl. With great visuals and a creepy atmosphere, Hellfire definitely earns it's place at number four.

3. Let it Go from Frozen: Yeah, I know it's recent and it's computer animated, but I consider it in the same formula as the other animated Disney films. (BTW, I liked this movie so much, I went to see it 3 times! Seriously, If you haven't seen it, check it out!)  Anyway, to the song. Queen Elsa, of the kingdom of Arendelle, has revealed her powers to create snow and ice to the entire kingdom and her sister, Anna. Thought of as a monster and unable to control her powers, she flees into the mountains and creates a palace of ice where she can live without prejudice and fear. In the song, she goes from angry and aggressive to  more content and lyrical. She's free to be who she really is. We actually she her character develop and Idina Menzel's performance and singing is remarkable. And, this is one of the most touching Disney songs I've ever heard. Let it Go: beautiful, complex and touching.

2.  Tale as Old as Time from Beauty and the Beast: Yes, I had to include at least 1 song from Beauty and the Beast. Now, it might seem simplistic with Belle and the Beast dancing in the ballroom. But, remember that the entire ballroom was computer animated and computer animation was relatively new when the movie came out. And yet, the characters fit in with the room. And, Angella Lansberry's singing voice is beautiful. Usually, they have a different actor/actress do the singing voice, but they kept the same actress to sing. Tale as Old as Time: this one never gets old.

And, the number 1 animated Disney song is....

1. Circle of Life from The Lion King: Yeah, this had to be number 1!  Keep in mind, this is not only my favorite Disney film but one of my favorite films, period. The animation is this scene is astounding, and I'm not just talking for it's time. Even today, this is great animation. But, what I really love about this song is it knows when to let the images do the talking. It tells the entire story of the birth of baby Simba and hims getting baptized as future king all without any dialog whatsoever. All the songs in The Lion King are great and I could have put a bunch on here. But, with the size, animation and storytelling of this one, Circle of Life is my favorite animated Disney song.

And, that's my list. I hope you enjoyed it and keep a lookout on my page. I have something special planned for next time.

I'll make a Man out of You is my favorite Disney song ever, it's so inspiring! Definitely makes you try harder. And Circle of life is a masterpiece of course. As for comedy songs I prefer Under the Sea from The Little Mermaid!
Anyway, I like your list, thanks for sharing!
